Virtual Hub Visiting Day Tour

Programming on the Google Classroom and Zoom platforms is in full swing, and last week, 90 visitors joined us to check out the action.

In the morning, participants joined our students as they took part in high-quality learning through the Literacy Liberation Center (LLC) and National Summer School Initiative (NSSI). In the afternoons, they moved to enrichment activities including martial arts with Frohm's Martial Arts, urban farming with Acta Non Verba: Youth Urban Farm Project, and creative writing with the Black Literacy Collective. These are black-run organizations in Oakland inspiring our kids to excellence. In case you missed the live tour, we have a recording of the live event that took place Wednesday, July 22nd. You’ll see what we’ve been doing in Phase 1, hear parent testimonials, and get an introduction to the Hub Phase 2 and how this could be a potential model for more cities. We’re not just talking about challenges — we’re taking the inequities that families face head on with solutions that work. Here’s what some of our visitors had to say:

“This is amazing work! Congratulations to the whole team!  Families are benefitting in a huge way!”

“Scaling programs like this to serve the entire city is critically urgent!”

“This is amazing work and empowers both students and their parents.  It is relational and parents just need to know they are supported and not judged.”

“The Oakland Reach has worked so hard to think about what it takes to TRULY support families in Oakland.”

“We need to think about the conditions for success for expanding a program like this. Way to go, TOR!”

“Thanks for the opportunity to see this incredible project!  I've been curious all summer and today has surpassed all my expectations! Thank you!”
