Oakland REACH Kicks Off Spring Hub with Community Monitor Giveaway
The Oakland REACH is launching our sixth round of Hub programming for students and families since the pandemic began. And, thanks to a partnership with the Oakland Unified School District (OUSD) to reach more families, more than 1,000 students are now benefiting from this model.
To mark the kickoff of the Spring 2022 Hub, The Oakland REACH is hosting a community computer monitor giveaway from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, February 11, and from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, February 12 to ensure families have the tools they need to participate fully in high-quality instruction.
The event shows the power of the community coming together to provide high-quality technology tools and math and literacy programming for families: The monitors were generously donated by California-based Airbnb; the event will take place at Sydewayz Cafe, a Black-owned IT support business in Oakland; and The Oakland REACH will be enrolling even more students in high-quality courses and their families in growing fellowship programs.
“What better way to mark Black History Month than bringing the community together to double down on our high-dosage tutoring offerings for family liberation,” said The Oakland REACH’s co-founder and CEO Lakisha Young. “Our goal is for families to continue to develop new ways to use technology, not just to survive during this pandemic, but to thrive.”
Spring Hub enrollment is already open. We are offering courses at Reconstruction.us, Outschool.com, and local partners like Lawrence Hall of Science, Frohm’s Martial Arts, and Art is Luv, and Mentoring. Interested families should go to bit.ly/oppfundhome to learn about our programs and apply.
Monitors will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis to community members until they are gone.
