Amira, AI Literacy Tutor

Using Amira for 30+ minutes per week is proven to help your child grow as a reader. Just 5–10 minutes a day makes a world of difference.

Amira is built on the Science of Reading and adapts to teach your child what they need to learn next. It provides real-time feedback, multi-sensory engagement, and tools that support all learners — including features designed to help students with special needs including dyslexia and others who may need extra support.

Your family success coach: Christina

We’re excited to introduce your Family Success Coach, Christina — your partner for support, encouragement, and tips to help your child succeed throughout their tutoring journey.

Christina has been with The Oakland REACH since 2021 and brings deep experience supporting families and students. She is an Oakland native and the proud mother of two Oakland public school students.

She is passionate about helping parents feel confident and equipped to support their child’s learning, saying:

“My work is personal; I am committed to making sure every child in my community and others like it have the opportunity to succeed.”

Your First Amira Session

Your child can use Amira anytime, anywhere on any computer or iPad. Access via phone is not available. Here’s what to expect:

  • The first session is an assessment so Amira can place your child at the right level. Please set up a quiet space for about 15 minutes for the assessment.

  • Amira needs to hear only ONE voice reading — your child! When adults read, it confuses the assessment and creates incorrect lessons. Please let your child read independently without your help.

  • The first few sessions may feel challenging — especially for students reading below grade level. This is normal. Stick with it! Amira will quickly adapt and become more comfortable as your child uses it.

Like any technology, Amira may require a little setup.
